Spring Collection for 2026 has ended for the City of Altoona
The City of Altoona offers curbside collection of leaves and brush for residents in the Spring and Fall every year. Residents must bag their leaves and yard trimmings for collection. Residents can always take these materials to either the Buckhorn Recycling & Compost Facility or the Duncansville Recycling & Compost Facility. Materials should be placed at the curbside for collection by 7:00 a.m.

Reminders
- Materials should be placed at the curbside for collection by 7:00 a.m.
- Paper bags only!
- NO tape! Please do not tape bags shut, simply fold the top of the bag.
- NO trash! Be certain bags do not contain metal, plastic, or other trash.
- Bags should weigh less than 50 lbs.
- Brush should be smaller than 3″ in diameter and 6′ in length.
Items That Will Not Be Picked-Up
- Whole trees.
- Root balls.
- Bags that are tied.
- Bags weighing more than 50 lbs.

March 23 – April 1

Monday Zone: Center City from 9th Avenue including Fairview, Keith Area, Gospel Hill, 5th Ward, 9th Ward, and a portion of 12th Ward from 4th Street to 31st Street. The Juniata section, Whenwood, Ivyside, Logantown, and Fairview.
Tuesday Zone: From 29th Street and Union Avenue including South Altoona, Mansion Park, Columbia Park, Llyswen, Highland Park, and Eldorado.
Wednesday Zone: Center City from 9th Avenue and Union Avenue to the Valley including Tuckahoe Park, Dutch Hill, Prospect, Pleasant Valley and East End.

Yard Waste Drop-Offs
Residents can drop-off yard waste year round at three locations:
- The City of Altoona Highway Yard (Accepts bagged material and car load quantities only!) – 5010 Sixth Avenue 8 a.m. until 2:45 p.m. weekdays
- Buckhorn Composting Facility – 1860 Black Snake Road, Dysart (open 10-5 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday; 9-3 Saturday; closed Wednesday and Sunday)
- Duncansville Composting Facility – 16906 Dunnings Highway, Duncansville (open 12-5 Tuesdays only)
Fall Collection
Brush Collection: October 19 – October 22
Leaf Collection: October 26 – November 30
Begins Monday, October 19th and ends on November 30. The first week is brush collection only, and the following weeks, starting October 26th, are leaf collections only.
