Automotive Material Recycling

Automotive Materials Accepted At Buckhorn Facility

Automotive Material recycling service is available to all residents in participating mandated municipalities (City of Altoona, Hollidaysburg Borough, and Logan Township) and residents in any non mandated municipalities.  Tyrone Borough residents should contact their municipal office for all recycling information, including hazardous materials and electronics.

The IRC accepts a variety of automotive materials for drop-off recycling at the Buckhorn Facility only.

Automotive batteries, used motor oil, transmission fluid, power steering fluid: free.

Used oil filters: $1 per filter

Used cooking oil: First 5 gallons free; 5+ gallons are $2 per 5 gallon increment.

Automotive Materials Not Accepted

We cannot accept used antifreeze, brake fluid, or other automotive fluids not listed. We do accept these at our annual household hazardous waste collection for proper disposal. These and other chemicals are toxic to people, plants and animals. They can pollute our streams and waterways. They should not be dumped down the drain or disposed of in the regular waste stream.

Not sure how to recycle automotive material?

If you are unsure as to how to recycle at our facility or need other recycling assistance please see an IRC employee.  We frequently have special recycling events to accept different materials.  To learn more about our special recycling events, or for other questions, please call our office at (814) 942-7472 or email education@ircenvironment.org.
