Election Sign, Brochure Recycling

Metal and plastic signs are dotted along streets and roads throughout the county to remind passersby that May 19, 2015 is the Primary Election Day.  The IRC will be offering collection points at both of the IRC Compost Facilities throughout the months of May and June to collect and recycle all campaign signs, stakes, pamphlets, buttons, and posts.

campaign signs

This collection program does not seek to take the campaign sign clean up responsibilities away from the campaigns.  Instead, the program hopes to connect candidates and home owners with an opportunity to recycle the campaign signs instead of sending them to the landfill. Sign posters (both political and non-political) are reminded that signs should be removed from public right-of-ways as soon as possible following the election.  Signs that are not removed often become unsightly (and sometimes dangerous) roadside litter.

Drug Take Back Day April 26, 2014

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has scheduled another National Prescription Drug Take Back Day which will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  This is a great opportunity for those who missed the previous events, or who have subsequently accumulated unwanted, unused prescription drugs, to safely dispose of those medications.  Click here to find a collection site near you.

Americans have participated in seven National Prescription Drug Take-Back Days over the past several years.  The United States Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA’s) Sixth National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day this past October collected 50 percent more pills than the previous one, demonstrating the American public’s continued appreciation and need for the opportunity to discard unwanted, unused and expired prescription drugs from medicine cabinets, bedside tables, and kitchen drawers.

On April 27, 2013, 742,497 pounds (371 tons) of prescription medications were collected from members of the public at more than 5,829 locations manned by 4,312 state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies that partnered with DEA on the event.  When added to the collections from DEA’s previous five Take-Back events, more than 2.8 million pounds (1,409 tons) of prescription medications have been removed from circulation.

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.
