Farmers' Market Hosts Workshops

Written by I.R.C.. Posted in IRC Blog

The Juniata Farmers' Market will be hosting food preparation and preservation workshops through the summer.  The market began in June 2012 and will run every Thursday through mid-autumn.  More than twenty farmers and producers have voiced an interest in the new market.  The IRC is part of a coalition of organizations led by the Blair County Conservation District promoting the purchase of locally grown food, fiber and value-added products from those local commodities.  Our long term goal is to open a year-round permanent farmers' market in one of the designated fresh food deserts in the Altoona area.  This effort also includes promotion of markets in Tyrone, Hollidaysburg and Heritage Plaza in Altoona.
